Jack Nelson

Ernest “Jack” Nelson, 86, of Iron River, formerly of Mason, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland. He was born September 13, 1921 in Ashland, the son of Axel and Maria (Mattson) Nelson.
He married Irene Nutt on May 10, 1947 in Mason. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iron River. Jack and Irene owned and operated Jack’s Clover Farm Store in Mason for 18 years. He then became the Standard Oil Distributor for 13 years. Jack retired in 1975 and in his retirement held offices on the Bayfield County Board, the Village of Mason, NWCEP, RSVP and many other boards. Jack was very active in the Lions Club in Iron River. He enjoyed spending time with people and having company over. Jack and Irene enjoyed traveling and have driven through every state in the United States.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene; six daughters: Linda (Duane) Lindahl, Lexie (Skip) Tenpas, Jackie (Larry) Jacobsen, Jill (Bob) Soik, Alice DeBriyn and Patsy (Don) Kontny; two sons, Ernest (Brenda) Nelson Jr. and Mark Nelson; a sister, Gladys Dickrell; 18 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: John, Walter, Allen, and Richard; four sisters: Margaret, Eva, Ruth and Beulah; and a son-in-law, Dick DeBriyn.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22 at the Moland Lutheran Church in Mason with Lay Pastor John Nedden-Durst officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Frost Home for Funerals in Ashland and will continue from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment will be in the Mason Cemetery.
