2023 ~ Annual Donations

Lion of the Year

President, Chris Olson, presented the 2023 Lion of the Year Award to Carol Gyllander at the July 5 Iron River Lions Club Meeting. This award is presented to a Lion who exhibits the principles of Lionism within the Club and in the community. Congratulations Carol!

King Gavin Olson and Prince Nolan Anderson represented the Iron River Lions Club at Superior’s 4th of July Parade. Thousands of people lined the parade route. Thank you King Gavin and Prince Nolan for representing Lions and our community!

The Iron River Lions Club was well represented at the Musky Festival in Hayward on Sunday, June 25th, by King Gavin Olson and Prince Nolan Anderson. The weather looked very threatening so we were well prepared with umbrellas, towels, etc. but we lucked out! No rain on our parade!!

Iron River Elementary had another exciting visit from Santa and this year was joined by one of the elves and even the Grinch! Lion’s club sponsored event that provided every child a gift and opportunity to take a photo with Santa, Grinch, and Elf!

Melvin Jones Fellows

Iron River Lions Club members Ray Levine and Chris Olson were named Melvin Jones Fellows by Lions Clubs International Foundation at the December 2022 meeting of the Iron River Lions Club. 

The Melvin Jones Fellowship is one of the foundation’s highest recognitions, honoring the commitment to humanitarian service.  Pictured from the left are Ray Levine and Chris Olson.

Community We Have!

Iron River Lions Rob Lombard and Lisa Olby presented a check in the amount of $5,000 to Chris Mitchell and JoHannah Orman, Social Workers and Child Life Specialists with the Erick Peter Person Children’s Cancer Center. The funds were raised at the Lions Club Wipeout Childhood Cancer Event held on April 9, 2022. A huge thanks to the community of Iron River for their generous support of the event! The Iron River Lions Donate $1,500
to the Iron River VFW ...

 … in support of the VFW funding drive to expand the building and include handicap accessible entrances and bathrooms.

The Iron River community enjoyed a fun filled afternoon on Saturday celebrating Springs slow arrival with a sock hop and kid’s carnival at the Iron River Community Center from 5 to 8pm. The Lions 50’s Diner featured burgers, hot dogs, blue plate special and the extremely popular Tetzner’s shakes and malts and A&W root beer floats. The basket raffle contained 100% prizes for kids that all encouraged active, healthy lifestyles including fishing poles, pickle ball rackets, scooters, and bikes.Ray and Christine provide 50’s and 60’s music and kids enjoyed carnival games, hula hoops and dancing to the hokey pokey and chicken dance.

All proceeds went to Essentia’s “Erick Peter Persons fund” which provides funds for the families of children who are being treated by the children’s cancer center. The funds provide support for family’s meals, lodging, and deductibles.
